CERGAS (Centre for Research on Health and Social Care Management) at SDA Bocconi School of Management is a leading research center in the field of health policy and management, with a long-standing focus on healthcare systems, organizations, and reforms. Its research combines analytical rigor with close interaction with institutions, healthcare providers, and policymakers, enabling a deep understanding of how health systems operate and evolve in practice. Over the years, CERGAS has developed a distinct perspective that integrates policy analysis with organizational and managerial insights.
The CERGAS Observatory on Italian Healthcare Organizations and Policies (OASI) was established in 2000, based on the principle that knowledge is necessary in order to evaluate and make decisions. The work carried out within the Observatory has contributed to building a cumulative body of knowledge on the Italian Health System, grounded in the observation of real phenomena and oriented toward understanding processes of change. Rather than offering purely descriptive accounts, the Observatory has consistently adopted an interpretative perspective, focusing on how system dynamics emerge from the interaction between institutional settings, organizational arrangements, and professional practices.
